Lomi Wawae with Kumu Kahililaulani Alapa’i
Kahililaulani Alapa’i, Kumu (teacher) of Hawaiian Culture and traditional practices, is a Kanaka Maoli, a native Hawaiian who grew up farming, fishing and gathering La’au Lapa’au (medicinal herbs) on the west coast of Oahu. Her mother Jean Kawehionapua Kaeo, a Hawaiian kupuna, taught her the mele (music, chanting), hula (dance), ho’oponopono (mental clearing, process work), and methods for alleviating spiritual and physical suffering.
Lomi Wawae Workshop
Lomi Wawae (= a lomi given with the feet- on a floor mat) was practiced and taught to stimulate the muscles, relieve tension, relieve pain and increase circulation while promoting lymphatic drainage. During the Makahiki “season” ( = in Hawaii traditionally the time off work for several months, around the turn of the year, a time for physical recreation and for celebration and feasting) the Ali’i and Mo’i (= the chiefs and kings) could benefit from this Lomilomi.
What we will learn
Constant pressure is applied with short and long strokes, which relieves cramps and tension and promotes better posture overall. We will use the feet and utilize gravity to apply pressure and cover larger (body) areas. The client experiences noticeable relief (stretching), and improvement in mobility.
Benefits of Lomi Wawae
- Stress reduction through deep muscle penetration
- Stimulation of the lymphatic system, and thus improvement in the elimination of waste products from the body
- Improvement of flexibility through stretching and massaging of deep muscle fibers
- Improvement of posture, by relieving the back and shoulder muscles
- Release of tension in the area around trigger points
- Relieving inflammation in the joints and muscles
- Improvement of the general well-being
You will learn to give a one-hour Wawae Lomilomi with or without oil. You will learn to use your feet while sitting on the floor, sitting on a chair or standing
